Dementia with Lewy Bodies
Awareness Video
Overview
In 2018, to help support The Lewy Body Society, Tidal Town Theatre filmed this awareness video.
Dementia with Lewy Bodies or DLB is the second most common form of neurodegenerative dementia, affecting approximately 100,000 people in the UK alone. It’s also one of the least known forms of the disease.
Lewy bodies are deposits of abnormal proteins inside brain cells, associated with the death of brain cells. People with DLB characteristically experience dramatic swings in their alertness, fluctuating from clarity to confusion. Vivid visual hallucinations are common in DLB. Because DLB, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s share so many symptoms, diagnosing DLB can be difficult. Accurate diagnosis is essential for successful treatment. For more about DLB, please visit The Lewy Body Society.
The video was shot on zero budget, using borrowed equipment, and relying on the help of many, many big-hearted individuals and organisations. We’re very grateful to everyone involved. We hope, in our small way, to help raise awareness about this terrible disease.
